—The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 96 (Brockville) recently donated $5000 from their Poppy Trust Fund to furnish a patient activity/dining area at the Brockville
General Hospital (BGH) Garden Street Site.
“We’re very happy to receive this gift that will allow us to add to the comfort of our patients using the Restorative Care Program,” says Sherry Anderson, Director of Complex Continuing Care, Rehab and Palliative Care at the Garden Street Site (GSS).
The connection to the Restorative Care Program for the Legion Branch 96 is that some of their members have used the highly successful program at BGH to recover faster from critical health issues or surgery.“We are always connected with our veterans and their needs,” says Joe Napper, Poppy Trust Chairman. “We support resources and needs in the local community that in turn support our veterans.”The funds for the patient lounge area will be used for furnishings that can be taken in future when the programs now at GSS move to the new build slated for construction at the BGH Charles Street Site.“Right now,” says Anderson, “we will name the new patient activity area ‘Legion Branch 96 Room’ so everyone knows whose generosity provided the resource to the hospital and the people it serves.”Branch 96 Poppy Chairman Keith Whiteland (far left) and Branch 96 Poppy Trust Chairman Joe Napper (far right) present the gift of $5000 to BGH staff (l – r) Cathy Knapp, Sherry Anderson and Lorraine White.
